Analysis of metal content in Base Oils by high-resolution ICP-OES

Base oils are one prodcut of crude-oil distillation, which are made into lubrication grease and engine oils, for example. As the latter contain significant amounts of additives, such as calcium sulfonate and zinc dialkyldithiophosphate, base oils are tested for elements such as Ca, P and Zn as part of quality control.
