Material Characterisation

The physical properties of solids, liquids, powders and suspensions define their behaviour. By characterising one probes a material’s structure and properties are probed and measured. It is a fundamental requirement in the field of materials science, without which no scientific understanding of engineering materials could be ascertained. Some techniques will study the microscopic structure and properties of sample materials, while other materials analysis process including macroscopic techniques such as mechanical testing, thermal analysis and density calculation.
