As part of SciMed’s continued growth, we are recruiting for a newly created role of Parr Pressure Vessel System Support Engineer. This position is to work alongside the 2 Sales Product Mangers supporting them in the sales, implementation and after sales field service of all Parr pressure vessel projects and installations.
SciMed has recently taken on the distributorship for Cortest Inc which specialises in corrosion testing equipment which includes the use of pressure vessels. This role will also have interactions with Cortest sourced projects.

As part of the role, travel to customers’ sites throughout the UK and Ireland will be required, as well as occasional trips abroad for product training at Parr’s manufacturing location in the USA.

This role will also have a proportion of time related to the support of the SciMed office administration team. This will mainly be goods processing within our stores area during holiday cover.

This a full time role.
The day-to-day interaction and work oversight will be from the 2 Parr Product Managers. However, the employee will ultimately report to the Service Director.

About The Role

Responsibilities

Specific Tasks

Technical Support for Pressure Systems:
  • Provide technical assistance for customers operating pressure-rated systems, addressing issues related to design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions, advising on solutions to ensure safe and optimal operation.
  • Offer guidance on installation, commissioning, and operation of pressure-rated equipment. Ensuring successful installation and commissioning of new systems
    • Planning installations including site surveys Modelling new equipment in situ at customer site where appropriate
    • Procuring all required items
    • Assisting planning for lifting equipment into place using good
    • Pipework installation
    • Carry out build and installation
Engineering Design and Documentation:
  • Utilise CAD design software to review, modify, or create technical drawings related to pressure vessels and associated systems.
  • Interpret and create P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and PFD (Process Flow Diagrams) to support system operation and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and customers to refine system designs to meet technical and operational needs.
Compliance and Certification:
  • Ensure systems comply with Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and other relevant safety regulations such as the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSRs)
  • Assist in preparing technical files, risk assessments, and documentation for certification purposes.
  • Support the development of compliance strategies for new and existing products.

Field and Remote Support:

  • Provide, return to base (RTB), on-site and remote support for system installations, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Conduct performance testing and ensure equipment meets operational specifications.
  • Offer training to customers and colleagues on the safe operation and maintenance of pressure-rated systems.


Customer Engagement and Problem-Solving:

  • Build strong relationships with customers, providing tailored technical solutions to their operational challenges.
  • Gather feedback on product performance to contribute to product improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the sales team during pre-sales activities to address technical queries and ensure customer confidence.

Office Admin Team Relief Cover

  • Cover the Stores Manager when they are on annual leave. This will involve:
  • the receipt, checking and packing of the in and out-bound movements of goods within SciMed
  • Ensuring that all paperwork relevant to goods movements are processed correctly
  • Any other admin duties required by the management team

Experience & Qualifications

Essential Role Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, or process engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with pressure-rated systems, pressure vessels, or related equipment.
  • Strong understanding of P&ID diagrams, PFDs, and their application in system troubleshooting and design. Analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on safety and performance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites for installation, service, or training. On site customer work could be up to 2/3rds of the role.
Desirable
  • Familiarity with materials science, particularly in relation to pressure-rated materials.
  • Familiarity with, PED, ASME or other relevant design code, eg. PD5500 including submission to notified bodies.
  • Knowledge of process control systems and instrumentation.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) or similar simulation tools.
  • Proficiency with CAD design software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for technical drawings and design modifications.

Location of role

This role will have it’s primary place of work as the SciMed office in Stockport (SK4 1PY) and the candidate should live in commuting distance of the office. However, due to the customer support nature of the role, up to 2/3rds of the role could be at customer sites and may require nights aways from home. This could include full weeks depending on the specific task and project.

Workday
This role is proposed to be between full time, Monday to Friday.

  • Salary based on experience. Basic salary range £35K – £45K pa depending on experience.

Selection Process

The selection process will be as follows:

  1. Applications will be long listed to a list of candidates of no more than 10. The long list process will remain open until a suitable list is obtained.
  2. The longlist candidates will be invited to a 30-minute web interview.
  3. This list will be narrowed to a shortlist of no more than 4 and candidates will be invited for a 1-hour interview in person at our offices in Stockport.
  4. If a suitable candidate is found the position will be offered on the condition that 2 satisfactory references are received, one of which is from your current/last employer.


This role will remain open until a suitable candidate has been appointed and no specific timeframe is being worked to.
