Lubricant and Grease testing

A lubricant is a substance, usually organic, introduced to reduce friction between surfaces in mutual contact, which ultimately reduces the heat generated when the surfaces move. It may also have the function of transmitting forces, transporting foreign particles, or heating or cooling the surfaces. The property of reducing friction is known as lubricity.
Monitoring the charcteristics of a lubricating oil is an essential part of understanding how it will perform. SciMed offers a comprehensive range equipment for the analysis of lubricants from Koehler Instrument company. Koehler have been manufacturing petroleum testing equipment since 1925 and are key members of several ASTM committees. They are responsible for many of the improvements in petroleum test methods through innovative design solutions.

Sample cylinders are held securely in place by stainless steel supports inside the bath.  A microprocessor based heater controls bath operating controls bath fluid temperature with greater than ±1°C accuracy and stability throughout the operating range of 25°C to 84°C.  Large LED readouts display setpoint and actual temperatures in Celsius or Fahrenheit scale…

Rust Preventing Characteristics Oil Bath

The system stirs sample-water mixtures at 1000rpm whilst immersed in a water bath with ± 0.5°C (± 1°F) stability. The microprocessor control provides fast temperature stabilization without overshoot. Dual LED displays provide actual and setpoint temperature values in °C/°F format. Communications software, ramp-to-set and other enhanced features are also available Stainless steel stirrer paddles are driven by a motor through a pulley drive-roller bearing arrangement. Paddles can be raised and lowered for placement of sample beakers in the bath. The package includes test specimens, holders and beaker covers for ASTM D665 or D3603 testing.  Stainless steel bath includes perforated support…

Panel Coking Test Apparatus

The Digitally controlled panel coking apparatus for finished lubricating oils, consisting of mechanical splasher, splash chamber and sample oil reservoir Test panel temperature and oil sump temperature are individually controlled by separate heaters with digital-indicating controllers.  Mechanical splasher has a variable speed 0-1800rpm drive motor with digital indicating control. A high accuracy variable area flowmeter permits introduction of a corrosive acidic atmosphere to increase the severity of the test.  Equipped with a digital countdown timer. Hinged safety cover has a port for fume removal and a safety interlock switch that interrupts power to the drive motor when the cover is…

Oxidation Stability Apparatus

The apparatus is available in 8, 12, 30 or 60 position formats. The system incorporates constant temperature baths, calibrated flowmeters and condenser water manifolds to determine oxidation stability of fuels and lubricants.  Each cell has an individual flowmeter, control valve and condenser manifold. The system features quick temperature stabilization without overshoot, and the bath is protected by a redundant over temperature control circuit that interrupts power should bath temperature exceed a programmed cut-off point. The display provides actual setpoint temperature values in °C/°F format. Communications software (RS232, etc.), ramp-to-set and other enhanced features are available as additional options.  Double-wall insulated…

Corrosiveness and Oxidation Stability Test Apparatus

The system is a series of constant temperature block baths for corrosivity and oxidation stability determinations.  Suitable for the analysis of hydraulic oils, aircraft turbine lubricants, transmission fluids and other highly refined oils. The insulated aluminium block provides safe, efficient performance at operating temperatures of up to 750°F (399°C).  The air flow is controlled at the specified rate by six individually adjustable flowmeters mounted on a common manifold. Copper Strip Corrosion from Lubricating Grease

The measurement of the tendency of lubricating grease to corrode copper under static conditions is an important parameter.  A polished copper strip is immersed in a sample at elevated temperature for a specified period. The strip is examined for corrosion and a classification number from 1-4 is assigned based on a comparison with the ASTM Copper Strip Corrosion Standards. The constant temperature bath has the capacity for the immersion of up to 16 test jars. The temperature of the bath can be measured in °C or °F and has a digital setpoint and display. ·       Conforms to ASTM D4048 specifications…

Automatic Dielectric Breakdown Tester 400

Automatic Dielectric Breakdown Tester

The majority of high-voltage transformers, cables, switchgears, transducers, capacitors, and rectifiers use insulating oils for insulating electrically live parts and to carry off thermal energy.  The quality of the insulating oil must be checked at regular intervals to ensure a long equipment service life.  The most important requirement of an insulating oil is a high dielectric strength. Determination of the dielectric breakdown voltage of insulating oils provides an early detection method for any reduction in the insulating properties. ·       Conforms to ASTM D877, D1816 and related test specifications ·       Output voltage: 75kV ·       Colour display for optimal readability and mobility…

Automated Air Release Analyser

The ability of a turbine, hydraulic, or lubricating oil to separate entrained air is a key performance characteristic in applications where agitation causes a dispersion of air bubbles in the oil.  To determine air release properties, the sample is heated to a specified test temperature and blown with compressed air. After the air flow is stopped, the time required for the air entrained in the oil to reduce in volume to 0.2% is the air bubble separation time. The Koehler Air Release Value Apparatus consists of a test vessel and air flow control equipment for delivering heated air at the…
