Process Analytical Technology, or PAT, is designed to analyse and control manufacturing processes by measuring the characteristics of raw and processed materials.
PAT helps minimise waste and increase efficiency, reducing over-processing and ensuring final product quality.
For example, the pharmaceutical industry must meet strict regulatory requirements, but it also needs to increase its production line efficiency. Rather than depend on traditional methods of quality assurance after processes are complete, PAT enables manufacturers to test, measure and analyse materials and products online utilising the Quality by Design approach.
This approach to quality control allows for continual adjustment of processes to maintain product quality.

From Viavi, the PAT-W and PAT-U offer the Linear Variable Filter technology utilised in the MicroNIR range of NIR spectrometers.
