Parr reactors can be fitted with a wide range of accessories to make your experiments work better.

Stirrers

There are three types of stirrer available for use with Parr stirred reactors, these are turbine impellers, anchor stirrers and spiral stirrers.

Gas Entrainment Stirrer

Gas Entrainment Stirrer
The Gas entrainment stirrer is designed to draw large amounts of gas through the solution from the head space of the vessel. The stirrer has a hollow shaft with openings at the top of the shaft and at the ends of the impeller blades. The rotation of the stirrer then causes a pressure differential that draws gas down the shaft of the stirrer and out of the tips of the blades. The gas entrainment stirrer can only be operated at higher stirring speeds, so are supplied with a replacement belt and pulley set.

Anchor stirrer

Anchor type stirrers are useful for stirring solutions with high viscosities such as slurries and pastes. The Anchor type stirrer operates at lower speeds and will usually require a high torque mag drive.

Sprial Stirrer

Spiral Stirrer
Spiral stirrers are used to create either a positive upward or downward thrust, this is particularly important when working with viscous polymers and other high viscosity solutions.

Condensers

Condensers can be fitted to the headspace of Parr reactors to condense hot gasses from the reaction mixture. These can be configured either as a means of drawing off a liquid (condensed gas) sample, or as a reflux apparatus.

Solids Charging Device

Solids Charging Device
The solids charging device provides an excellent way of adding solids to the reaction mixture at atmospheric pressure, and without having to open the main seal of the vessel.

External Catalyst Addition Device
The External catalyst addition device (XCAD) is a small vessel mounted on the head of the reaction vessel via a ball valve. The XCAD can then be pressurised to the match the reaction vessel, and the solids can be added to the reactor at high pressure.

Internal Catalyst Addition Device (ICAD)

Internal Catalyst Addition Device
The Internal Catalyst Addition Device (ICAD) is a small container mounted on the inside of the head of the vessel. The device is loaded with solids or liquids prior to closing the vessel, and can be popped open inside the vessel by adding an overpressure of gas to it at an opportune moment during the reaction. This is usually used by researchers interested in kinetics studies as it allows you to define time zero very accurately by adding the catalyst via the device.

Burettes

Liquid Charging Burette
The liquid charging burette is a great way of adding liquids to a reaction once the vessel is under pressure. The liquid is held in a cylinder connected to the head of the vessel via tubing and a needle valve. The cylinder can then be pressurised with the liquid in place, and dosed into the reaction vessel.

Gas Burette

Gas Burette
A favourite of kinetics researchers, the gas burette allows you to track gas uptake during a reaction. The apparatus consists of a cylinder that is filled with a reactive gas, connected via a forward pressure regulator to the reaction vessel. The regulator ensures that the pressure inside the vessel remains constant, so as the pressure in the burette reduces the volume of gas consumed by the reaction can be calculated.
