Linking Elemental & Molecular Analysis in Agri-Food & Feed

FREE WEBINAR

SciMed Events

24th March 2026
10:30 AM

SciMed is pleased to announce a free webinar focused on linking elemental analysis with molecular analysis in the Agri-Food & Feed industry. Scheduled for the week commencing 24th March 2026, this online event will demonstrate how combining techniques like XRF (X-ray fluorescence) and NIR spectroscopy can enhance quality control for food and feed products.

The session is presented by Tom Knott (SciMed’s XRF specialist) and Darren Machen (SciMed’s NIR specialist), who will share their expertise on rapid, non-destructive testing methods. Whether you’re analysing animal feed for mineral content or monitoring food products for nutritional and chemical composition, this webinar will show how elemental and molecular analysis together provide a more complete picture to meet industry standards and ensure product integrity.

XRF & ELEMENTAL ANALYSIS

Dr. Tom Knott – Product Manager (XRF & Elemental Analysis)

Dr. Tom Knott is SciMed’s XRF specialist with a strong background in analytical chemistry and academia. He has extensive experience developing and validating methods for elemental analysis to achieve successful research and quality outcomes.

Since joining SciMed, Tom has supported numerous companies (including those in the agriculture and food industries) by providing tailored advice and solutions for their elemental analysis needs. He regularly works with techniques like XRF and ICP-OES, helping labs implement these tools to meet regulatory requirements and improve efficiency. Tom’s deep expertise ensures webinar attendees will learn practical, real-world applications of elemental analysis technology.

NIR & MOLECULAR ANALYSIS

Darren Machen – Product Manager (NIR & Molecular Spectroscopy)

Darren Machen is SciMed’s NIR spectroscopy specialist, with over 20 years of experience in chemistry and analytical sciences. He has worked in various contract testing labs and completed an MSc (with distinction) focused on analytical techniques.

Darren joined SciMed in 2015 to lead the company’s Near-Infrared (NIR) and Raman product lines and has since helped many laboratories adopt rapid, non-destructive molecular analysis methods. He has overseen projects deploying NIR spectrometers for on-site process monitoring and quality control in industries ranging from pharmaceuticals to food processing.

Darren also manages SciMed’s X-ray diffraction (XRD) range, giving him a broad perspective on material analysis. With his blend of technical knowledge and field experience, Darren will offer valuable guidance on implementing molecular spectroscopy for better product insight.

Darren also manages SciMed’s Parr Pressure Vessel & Reactor range, giving him a broad perspective on process solutions. With his blend of technical knowledge and field experience, Darren will offer valuable guidance on implementing molecular spectroscopy for better product insight.
