Lab Scale Pressure Vessels

Parr Shaker Hydrogenators

An old favourite within the organic chemistry fraternity is the Parr Shaker Hydrogenator. This easy-to-use system allows the hydrogenation of material up to a pressure of 5 bar and with the option of heating up to 80°C. While the basic design has not changed since it was first commercialized by Parr in 1926, the design has been updated many times to improve its ease of use and remain in line with changing legislation. The system is available in 2 models each with 2 volumes: -250/500 ml and 1000/2000 ml. Due to its simplicity of use, an experiment can be set…

Hydrothermal Synthesis

Many sample preparative techniques require an aqueous mixture to be heated above 100°C resulting in the system having an associated vapour pressure. Examples of this are nanoparticle and zeolite synthesis. Many of these methods also require either acid or alkaline conditions where stainless steel would be readily corroded. Parr Instrument Company manufactures a range of pressure vessels that completely encapsulate the sample within a PTFE environment. This PTFE cup and cover allows the pressure vessel to be manufactured out of the inexpensive material T316SS without the worry of corrosion or loss of sample. These vessels can be heated up to…

Custom designed systems

As all of our equipment is used by researchers and all research is different, at SciMed, we take the view that there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution. In partnership with Parr Instrument Company, we are able to tailor the equipment to your needs using catalogue items as a starting point. The tailored change may be something as small as the addition of an extra valve, through to the construction of a full interrogated pressure system with numerous vessels, ancillaries and full DCS control. This can be achieved in the following way: What does the customer need? In the initial consultation stage,…

Tubular Vessels

With the 5400 tubular reactor systems, Parr offer a fully customisable, cost-effective and efficient way for researchers to meet their needs for continuous flow chemistry from benchtop to pilot plant scale. The 5400 tubular reactor systems use a continuous reactant feed via either liquid or gas, a range of heating options and scope for automation and data collection. Fluidised bed reactors Fluidised bed reactors operate by suspending the solids bed or catalytic particles in an up flow of gas; allowing easy loading and removal of catalyst as well as a range of other benefits: • High conversion with large throughput…

Non-Stirred Metal Vessels

Parr Instrument Company offer laboratory scale pressure vessels without mechanical internal stirring. These autoclaves, (referred to as ‘general purpose vessels’), are provided in several convenient sizes and cover a wide temperature and pressure range (shown below) to allow the researcher’s specific application to be carried out. Examples of the uses of these vessels are: Simple organic chemistry pressurised reactions Many organic chemists use our general purpose vessels for carrying out hydrogenations where they heat and stir the vessel on a conventional stirrer hotplate. This is a low cost way of undertaking simple synthetic pressurised reactions while keeping safely as the…

Glass Vessels

Suitably engineered glassware can be used for processes that are carried out at pressures below 10 atmospheres. This limits the pressure to a maximum of 10 bar, but allows the user to clearly see what is happening on the inside of the reactor and therefore minimising possible corrosive and contamination effects from contact with metal surfaces. The vessel volumes range, available from 160ml to 1.5L, come with overhead mechanical stirring. They can be supplied either with an electrical heating mantle or with a jacketed vessel for use with a circulating bath. Contact us now > Or call us now on…

5500 Compact Lab Reactor

The Compact series (25–600ml) was developed with the academic user in mind where a simple entry level system is of interest. This system uses standard Parr pressure vessels with lower specification components than what is found on the 4500 series vessels. However, the lower coupling force on the mag drive, the lower powered direct drive motor and aluminium heater are particularly suitable for small scale R&D where working conditions are under 200 bar and 350oC. The small footprint of the system makes this a very popular choice of unit where space is at a premium.          …

4500 Series Stirred Pressure Vessels

Parr supply a family of stirred pressure vessels ranging from 25ml to 5 USG (18.75L). These are split into 7 series which all follow the same design principles and use Parr’s extensive design and manufacture capabilities to ensure that the systems are as user-friendly as possible without compromising the pressure vessel safety.                                   All of these vessels come complete with a stand comprising heater and motor and a Parr 4848 controller. Material of Construction All standard Parr pressure vessels are made from 316 stainless…
