Advanced Reactive System Screening Tool (ARSST)

In the mid-1980s, FAI introduced the RSST. In 1998, this was superseded by the Advanced Reactive System Screening Tool (ARSST). The ARSST was designed for hazards assessors who require basic information on process upset conditions. The ARSST is based upon a small (5-20ml) spherical glass test cell. This test cell is then heated by a wraparound heater which can bring the sample temperature to 400°C. Vent Sizing Package 2 (VSP2)

The Fauske VSP is a laboratory tool which allows a hazards assessor to collect precise ‘off-normal’ process design data. Using the VSP calorimeter, experiments can be performed to model upset scenarios such as loss of cooling, loss of stirring, mischarge of reagents, mass-loaded upset, batch contamination and fire exposure heating.
