About The Role

SciMed is looking for an organised, proactive and adaptable Operations & Business Support Assistant to join our team at our headquarters in Stockport.

This is a highly varied and rewarding role supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the business.

Working closely with Directors, senior management and colleagues across multiple departments, you’ll provide business and operational support, assist with finance administration, coordinate service administration activities and help ensure internal processes continue to run efficiently.

You’ll also have the opportunity to support areas including basic IT, stores and laboratory activities, making this an ideal position for someone who enjoys variety, learning new skills and becoming a trusted member of a close-knit team.

Full training will be provided, including training on Sage 200 and SciMed’s internal systems.

An understanding of finance and accounts administration and/or previous experience within a scientific, engineering, technical or other STEM-related environment would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide business and administrative support to Directors and senior management.
  • Support service administration, including scheduling engineers, processing service orders and maintaining accurate records.
  • Assist with purchase invoices, sales invoices, expenses, purchase orders and general financial administration.
  • Provide holiday and absence cover across service administration, finance and stores.
  • Produce reports, presentations and other business documentation.
  • Coordinate meetings, travel arrangements and diary management.
  • Deliver first-line support for basic Microsoft 365 and IT queries.
  • Support stock control, goods receiving and dispatch activities when required.
  • Assist with simple laboratory support tasks following appropriate training.
  • Maintain accurate business records and documentation.
  • Contribute to continuous business improvement projects.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to help ensure the smooth running of SciMed’s day-to-day operations.

Role Requirements

The successful candidate will be highly organised, dependable and comfortable managing a varied workload.

You’ll need to be confident working with colleagues across different areas of the business, able to use your own initiative and comfortable switching between administrative, financial and operational tasks as priorities change.

This position would particularly suit someone who enjoys learning, solving problems and developing a broad understanding of how a growing business operates

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word and Teams.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Professional, reliable and adaptable approach to work.
  • Positive, practical and hands-on attitude.
  • Willingness to learn new systems, processes and areas of the business.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience within business support, administration or office management.
  • An understanding of accounts or financial administration, including invoice processing and record keeping.
  • Previous experience within a scientific, engineering, technical or STEM-related environment.
  • Experience using Sage 200 or another accounting/business management system.
  • A STEM-related educational or professional background.

Previous Sage 200 experience is not essential, as full training will be provided.

Candidates without a STEM background will also be considered where they can demonstrate strong transferable administrative and business support experience.

Location of role

This position is based at SciMed’s headquarters in Stockport, Greater Manchester (SK4 3GN).

The role works closely with colleagues across the business and involves supporting a variety of office-based operational activities.

Selection Process

The selection process will be as follows:
