About the ICAPPIC Scanning Probe Microscopes

SciMed are now offering the versatile ICAPPIC SICM platform to our customers. Book a consultation with our resident electrochemistry expert now!

We cover the full life of the system. Design it with our experienced Scanning Probe Electrochemists. Delivery, installation, initial training and post installation support all handled by our expert team.

The integrated software is highly modifiable to design unique experiment protocols. Perform highly specialised and controlled experiments capable of delivering active material into the nuclei of individual living cells.

Build polymeric nanostructures and investigate metal deposition on the nanoscale with the same device.

Detailed 3D images and complex sample specific electrochemical data can be mapped and modelled at the click of a button. Our high-speed scanning modes allow for true live cell measurements as well as providing detailed information on probe surface separation so cell stiffness and interfacial surface properties can be analysed.

Calculate the Young’s modulus of cells using the probes force feedback. Investigate, modify and analyse surfaces in ways not possible with other techniques. Integrate the system with atomic force microscopy and confocal imaging to further expand capabilities.

Product FAQ's

Scanning Ion Conductance Microscopy is used for non-contact, high-resolution imaging of soft and living samples. ICAPPIC SICM systems enable detailed 3D surface mapping, live cell imaging, and local electrochemical measurements without physically touching the sample, making them ideal for life science and nanoscale electrochemistry research.

Unlike AFM, SICM does not apply mechanical force to the sample surface. ICAPPIC SICM uses a nanopipette to measure ion conductance, allowing imaging of delicate biological samples such as living cells without deformation. The system can also integrate electrochemical sensing, targeted dosing, and simultaneous confocal imaging, offering broader experimental flexibility than traditional scanning probe methods.

Yes. ICAPPIC SICM platforms are fully customisable and can be configured for life sciences, materials science, nanoscale electrochemistry, and biosensing applications. Systems can be adapted for confocal microscopy integration, smart patch clamp analysis, mechanical property measurement, pH and active species mapping, and nanoscale surface deposition.

ICAPPIC SICM systems are designed for high-speed live cell imaging and long-term experiments lasting for 24 hours or more. The non-contact scanning method preserves cell viability and the samples can be bathed in media suitable for sustaining cells for long periods so continuous, high-resolution data for monitoring dynamic biological processes over time can be obtained.

SciMed provides full lifecycle support for ICAPPIC SICM systems, including consultation, system design, delivery, installation, training, and ongoing technical support. Customers also benefit from access to SciMed’s electrochemistry specialists, ensuring systems are configured and optimised for specific experimental requirements.
