About the Water Washout Tester

The Water Washout Tester is designed to meet the specifications of ASTM D1264 which is one of the required test methods of ASTM D4950: Automotive Service Greases.

The introduction of the Water Washout Tester addresses the challenge of inconsistent and unreliable testing methods. Its controlled test conditions and adherence to ASTM standards improve both accuracy and repeatability.

The water washout test covers the evaluation of the resistance of a lubricating grease to washout by water from a bearing under prescribed laboratory conditions. The test involves packing a test bearing with grease, then subjecting this preweighed bearing to a steady stream of water under controlled test conditions.

The K19201 Water Washout automates this procedure in a contained and controlled environment. It rotates a lubricated ASTM ball bearing at 600 rpm while impinging the bearing with a stream of water at the specified flow rate and temperature. During the test a controlled water flow is sprayed at the bearing housing using a constant velocity carbon bearing gear pump, valves and flowmeter. Temperature is controlled to within ±0.5°C.

Once the test is completed the bearing is easily removed, ready to be dried according to test methods conditions, prior to weighing.

The K19201 also has a safety feature that will not allow it to run when the lid is open.
