Rheology Masterclass 2026
Hosted by SciMed in partnership with Thermo Fisher Scientific
SciMed Masterclass
Wed 23rd Sept 2026
SciMed is pleased to announce a Masterclass for Rheological testing which will take place at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Hemel Hempstead on Wednesday 23rd September 2026.
Delivered by experienced rheology specialists from both organisations, this technical training event combines theory, practical demonstrations and hands-on learning to help attendees gain a deeper understanding of rheological testing techniques and real-world applications.
Whether you work with polymers, coatings, pharmaceuticals, food products, cosmetics or advanced materials, this course has been designed to provide valuable insight regardless of which rheometer system you currently use.
Countdown to event
What will I learn?
The course has been designed so that users of any brand and model of rheometer can attend and benefit.
Many aspects of rheology will be covered including theory (both rotational and oscillatory), tribology, powder rheology, sample preparation and method development.
Fully operational systems will be used for the training to allow participants to get essential and beneficial “hands-on” experience.
Training certificates will be provided to all attendees.

Who's Speaking
Dr. Klaus Oldörp
Thermo Fisher Scientific
Dr. Klaus Oldörp studied chemistry in Hamburg, Germany and did his doctorate with a focus on polymer rheology. At the Fraunhofer WKI he was responsible for the synthesis and analysis of binders for wood-based materials. He then moved to ICI Polyurethanes (later Huntsman Polyurethanes) in Belgium and, as part of the SHE team, was responsible for the safe use of isocyanate-based binders in wood-based panel production. Since 2003, Dr. Oldörp works as a 'senior rheology application specialist at Thermo Fisher Scientific and in this role heads the rheology application laboratory and is active in practical and theoretical user training.
Kevin Barber
Thermo Fisher Scientific
Kevin Barber studied Environmental Chemistry at the University of Sussex and graduated in 1984. He Joined Fisons Instruments in 1985 and had sales support, technical support and marketing roles before having his first commercial responsibilities for HAAKE products in 1989. Since then he has had an ongoing commercial responsibility for the Thermo Scientific HAAKE viscometer and rheometer products within the UK. He has also covered Ireland and the Nordic Countries. He also represents the HAAKE laboratory extrusion products. In his current position he supports SciMed Ltd in their distributor role for the Thermo Scientific HAAKE viscometer and rheometer products.
